Message from the Executive Director
Hello and Welcome to the Red Deer John Howard Society! It is our sincere hope that you find our website helpful when looking at services we offer.
The Red Deer John Howard Society is a member is good standing with The John Howard Society of Alberta, whose offices are located in Edmonton, AB. You will find that various John Howard Societies, 72 nationally, offer a variety of programs and services. Each society is connected to their provincial organization and then to the national John Howard Society of Canada.
The consistency which each John Howard Society chapter holds is in the message John Howard offers. The message is; as a person you have value and the right to be treated with dignity, fairness and compassion. You are not your crime. You are a person who, at one time made a choice or choices that are counterproductive to yourself and your community. We all are accountable and responsible for our own behaviour. All of us have the right to live in peace and an obligation to maintain harmony in our community.
We remember that justice is best served through interventions that resolve conflict and restore harmony not just within our communities, but within ourselves.
The most enjoyable things in the world are pleasant thoughts. The greatest art in life is to have as many of them as possible.
Peace,
Marion Carlson
