Red Deer System Navigators
The Red Deer System Navigators (RDSN) initiative seeks to enhance support for systemically underserved and vulnerable populations by providing a centralized forum for collaboration among service providers across Red Deer. This collaborative space (virtual and group email) enables frontline workers, who already maintain trusted relationships and rapport with their clients, to access coordinated guidance and resources more effectively. By streamlining communication and resource sharing through regular meetings and a centralized contact system, RDSN helps ensure timely, appropriate, and efficient interventions for complex cases
The primary goal of RDSN is to reduce service fragmentation and improve outcomes for clients who often face barriers navigating traditional referral systems. Prior to RDSN, these marginalized individuals were at increased risk of falling through the cracks due to the time-intensive and often ineffective nature of navigating services independently or due to the limited support their workers could provide because of capacity issues and the complexity of these cases. The project aims to address this gap by equipping service providers with the support needed to overcome these systemic challenges so that their clients can meet their basic needs, gain appropriate mental health supports, and ultimately receive the support that they need to thrive.
Monthly RDSN meetings take place virtually between September and June, with two in-person networking gatherings annually. A group email and shared resources support collaborative work.
