Operations Manager
The Position:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Operations Manager position provides General Operations, Human Resources, Employee Benefits and limited Finance and administrative supports to the management team and to helps ensure smooth day to day operation of the Organization. The Operations Manager also provides point of contact support to contracted IT services (including communications, networking and internet), building operations and tenant relations.

The Position:

Duties and Responsibilities:
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with the Day-to-Day operations of the Organization
- Acting as a primary point of contact for the Organization to existing external contracted services for Human Resources, Benefits, and IT.
- Assisting with Human Resources activities within the organization, including:
- Support to the Management team with new program staff hiring, onboarding, and follow-up;
- Support to the Management team in the maintenance of HR files, including annual audits and “bring forward” updates;
- Manage centralized scheduling of mandatory training for all program staff;
- Support to the Management team in identifying supplemental training for all staff, as required;
- Under advisement of contracted HR services, and alongside administration and management, provide support to the Management team in any progressive discipline up to and including staff dismissal, as required.
- Assisting with the administration of the Organization’s group benefits plan:
- Work with the Executive Director and Organization’s benefits provider to administer to all staff the organization's self managed extended health, dental, short term and long term disability benefits;
- In consultation with the Organization’s benefits provider, support all new or otherwise eligible staff in establishing or updating their benefits profile;
- Provide communications from the benefits provider to all staff as relevant, including any changes made to the plan, coverages, premiums, or limits.
- Coordination and collaboration with contracted IT services:
- Work with the Organization’s contracted IT service providers to ensure the Organization’s service needs are being met, including equipment maintenance and addressing service issues in a timely manner
- When required, submit service tickets to the contracted IT service provider
- Schedule IT maintenance related to submitted tickets to minimize disruption
- General Operations
- Assist in global and program budget review, with recommendations reflecting the current operational needs of the Organization
- Develop and support the implementation of general operations processes which aim to improve overall operations, create efficiencies or further the Organization’s strategic priorities
- Under the direction of administration, support the communication and implementation of Organization Policies and supporting Procedures
- Build operations and tenant relations

Hours and Compensation:

Education and Experience Requirements:
Mandatory Requirements for the Operations Manager position are:
- Post-secondary Diploma in Business, Management and Administrative Studies, Human Resources or related field
- 2 or more years previous working experience in a related role is preferred.
- Equivalent education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the Executive Director.
- Demonstrated experience working with criminal justice system stakeholders and/or non-profit operations is considered favorable.
- Training or experience in use of Office 365 software and work environments including Sharepoint and Teams, general office equipment, multi-line phone systems
- Basic First Aid with CPR and AED
- Clear Criminal record check
- Valid driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract, and adequate vehicle insurance
Desirable provisions for the Operations Manager position:
- Specific training in one or more of the following areas is preferred: Nonviolent crisis intervention, mental health and addictions, occupational health and safety.
- Demonstrated experience communicating with Provincial and Federal Corrections, Addictions and Mental Health, Municipal, Provincial and Federal stakeholders and community-based organizations.
- Demonstrated proficiency prioritizing multiple competing deadlines
- Experience in human resources, finance, and tenant relations

Position: Drug Screener (PT–Contractor)

The John Howard Society of Red Deer is a non-profit organization working to promote community harmony through the advocation of human dignity and social justice. We support and serve those involved in the justice system through a restorative process and believe in treating every person with fairness, dignity and compassion while holding each person accountable for their own behavior.
The Project
Central Alberta Drug Treatment Court Services offers community-based treatment support services to the participants of the Central Alberta Drug Treatment Court -Provincial Court of Alberta – program. Working together within a multi-disciplinary team, the Drug Treatment Court program involves a process of intensive judicial supervision, treatment, rehabilitation, and community reintegration for individuals who have become involved in the criminal justice system as a result of their substance use disorder. The program works in partnership with multiple government ministries, community agencies, and organizations to provide links to resources for participants.
The Position
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Drug Screener will provide regular and random observed drug screening (training provided) to the above-mentioned population. This screening occurs both on-site and in the participant’s home at scheduled and varied hours, 365 days a year. The Drug Screener will follow standardized procedures for screening and documentation.
Note: Due to the sensitive and personal nature of drug screening, these are gender matched positions. We are currently seeking one male screener
As an ideal candidate you will have:
Mandatory Requirements
· Minimum two years of experience in the last 5 years working with vulnerable populations
· A background in law enforcement, corrections, or specimen collection and/or related human services experience.
· A valid driver’s license, registration, insurance, and a reliable vehicle
· The ability to work flexible/varying hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
· Strong ethics, accountability, and adherence to standards of practice.
Desirable provisions
· Experience with drug screening practices and specimen collection
· Self-motivated and able to manage your own schedule.
· Have a strong interest or experience in working with addictions and/or the criminal justice system
· ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)
· First Aid with CPR

Casual Support Worker – Weekends, Overnights and Holidays
The Program:
Horizon House is a community residential facility (CRF) that provides housing, support and supervision to federal offenders (male and female) upon their conditional release to the community. We work to successfully reintegrate offenders into the community, and to assess and mitigate risk during the process of reintegration.
The Position:
The casual support worker is responsible for completing day to day clerical tasks, and for monitoring and documenting residents' movement in the house as well as for the verification/tracking of residents' daily activities in the community. The successful candidate will be a team player who displays strong professional boundaries. They will feel comfortable interacting with offenders convicted of a wide range of offenses, and will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. A basic understanding of community corrections and familiarity with addictions and/or mental health disorders would be a great asset.
Hours and Compensation:
Applicants must be willing and able to work shift work (8 to 10 hour shifts). Only applicants who have a flexible schedule and are available for weekends and overnight shifts will be considered. Applicants should clearly indicate their availability upon applying. Compensation for this position starts at a minimum hourly rate of $18.00/hr but may be negotiable based on experience and suitability. Training wage will be discussed with the successful candidate prior to their start date.

· Standard First Aid/CPR
· A post-secondary certificate/diploma (or equivalent) in a relevant human services field
