The John Howard Society of Red Deer

        Criminal Justice Education

What can the John Howard Society of Red Deer do for your school?

The John Howard Society of Red Deer offers an in-class presentation to Elementary, Junior and Senior High School Students’ about the Youth Criminal Justice Act. It fits in very well with the new grade 9 Social Studies Justice Chapter. Each presentation may include PowerPoint, a video, student materials, other printed resources and/or a teacher support package.

Elementary (grade 1-6) class topics include:

        • Cooperation and sharing
        • Stealing and Responsibility
        • Vandalism
        • Conflict resolution
        • Basic Principals of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA)

Middle School and High School topics include:

        • Basic Principals of the YCJA
        • Legal Rights
        • Diversion
        • Sentences
        • Youth Records

Many of our lessons tie in nicely with Social Studies, Health and CALM classes

All lessons are FREE of charge, but schools are asked to consider an honorarium.
